Obituary

In Loving Memory of Edna Fontaine

Edna Fontaine, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 2 at the age of 85.
Born on June 10, 1941, in Waltham, Edna was known for her kind heart, generous spirit, and unwavering love for her family. She devoted her life to the people she loved, always putting others before herself and finding joy in the simple moments they shared together.
She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many friends who were fortunate enough to know her. To her children, she was more than a mother—she was their safe place, their greatest supporter, and the person they could always turn to.

Her love, wisdom, strength, and laughter will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Edna was the devoted wife of the late Roland Fontaine, the love of her life. Together they shared 60 years of marriage. Their love was a beautiful example of what it means to walk side by side through life. There will never be enough words to express how much she meant to us. We will miss her voice, her laughter, her hugs, and all the little things that made her mom. We find comfort in knowing that Edna and Roland are together again.

She is survived by her children; Lisa Lauffer and her husband John of Attleboro, MA., Tina Ahlborg and her husband Craig of North Kingstown, Roland Fontaine and Susan Banna of Rehoboth, Anthony Fontaine and Anna of Pawtucket and Dina Murphy and her husband James of Cumberland. Seven grandchildren; Chelsea, Patricia, Haley, Andrew, Jacob, Eric, and Allison, two great-grandchildren; Palmer and Leeson along with several nieces and nephews. Along with her lifelong friend, Dorothy Landry.

Edna loved sharing a cup of coffee and cake with family and friends. In her honor, please enjoy some coffee and cake with someone you love and remember Edna with a smile.

Relatives and friends are invited to Edna's Life Celebration to be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, with Visiting Hours from 4 PM to 7 PM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 10 AM in St. Teresa of the Child Jesus Church, 358 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are requested to go directly to church. Burial will be private.
