Dorothy A.
Conlon
Jul 4, 1932 — Dec 24, 2025
Cumberland
Dorothy "Dot" (Murray) Conlon, 93, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, at Scallop Shell of Wakefield.
Born on July 4, 1932, in Medford, Massachusetts, Dot was the daughter of Frederick Murray and Katherine "Arline" (McCarthy) Murray. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose life was defined by service, music, and a deep love of family.
Dot was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harold "Red" Conlon; her infant daughter, Virginia Marie; her parents; and her sisters, Sr. Virginia Murray, CSJ, and Claire B. McCabe.
She is survived by her twin brother, Bro. Donald J. Murray, SJ; her three sons, Robert (Sally), Paul (Kathy), and Kevin (Angie); and her eleven cherished grandchildren. She is also survived by her "adopted" Grover family as well as many nieces and nephews in the Conlon, McCabe and Gnatek families.
After graduating from Burdett Business School, Dot worked for 12 years at New England Telephone and Telegraph before leaving the workforce to raise her sons. Following the sudden passing of her husband, she opened her home to care for many children and later began a 27-year career with the Cumberland School Department, from which she retired.
Dot remained deeply involved in her community throughout her life. She was active in the Special Religious Education (SPRED) program, sang with the Cumberland-Lincoln Community Chorus, and volunteered as a teacher with the English for Immigrant Families Program. Her commitment to helping others was quiet, steady, and lifelong.
Dot loved sharing music with family and friends and rarely spent a weekend at home, choosing instead to be with those she loved.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Scallop Shell of Wakefield for their compassionate care during Dot's final years.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Dot's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on Saturday, January 10, 2026, 9 AM to 10:30 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM in the Historic St. Joseph Church, 1303 Mendon Road Cumberland. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to SPRED 1303 Mendon Road Cumberland, RI 02864, or Cumberland Lincoln Community Chorus, 55 Woodland Street, Lincoln, RI 02865 in Dot's memory.
