Obituary

CUMBERLAND

Donnalee J. (Martel) Segal, 66, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Hope Health Hospice in Providence, following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Born in Cumberland, she was the devoted daughter of the late Lorraine Grace Lewis and the late Fred Martel.

Donna was an exceptionally intelligent and compassionate person with a natural gift for caregiving. She dedicated most of her career to Women & Infants Hospital in Providence, where she rose to the position of Nurse Director. She also served on the Rhode Island Department of Health's COVID Task Force, lending her expertise during an unprecedented time in healthcare. She concluded her professional journey at Meeting Street School, where her kindness, leadership, and commitment to helping others continued to shine.

Donna had a true zest for life and found joy in so many things—trips to Disney, shopping, birdwatching, and even the antics of the neighborhood squirrels. She loved celebrating every holiday, especially Christmas, but nothing meant more to her than time spent with her family and her pets, particularly her beloved Great Dane, Blue.

Known affectionately as Mimi to her granddaughters, Donna took great delight in sharing life's simple pleasures with them—baking cookies, decorating for the holidays, and soaking up the sun by the pool. The love she poured into every moment with them and the memories she shaped with such care will forever be held close in their hearts.

She and her mother Lorraine, known to all lovingly as Nana, formed a mighty and inseparable pair.  Whether they were planning the next seasonal tradition, cheering on their granddaughter in her many sports, or creating a warm, welcoming home where everyone loved to gather, they approached everything as a team. Their bond went far beyond that of mother and daughter; they were truly best friends. Her family finds comfort knowing that they are together once again.

Donna was the epitome of selflessness; everything she did was rooted in love for the people around her. From the thousands of patients she cared for throughout her career to the many friends and family who surrounded her, she approached everyone with warmth, compassion, and genuine kindness.

She leaves her children, Jeffrey Furtado and his wife Leigh of Cumberland, and their daughter Ellery; Jordan Segal and his wife Jessica of Maywood, NJ, and their daughter Alexandra; Lacey Segal of Cumberland; and her stepfather, Ron Lewis of Cumberland.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Donna's Life Celebration, with visitation on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from 5 to 8 PM at the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland.

Her funeral and burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Meeting Street School, 1000 Eddy St #4739, Providence, RI 02905.
