WOONSOCKET

“

Family was the center of her world, and she took great pride in watching the generations of her family grow.

Delmira Rodrigues Almeida Fernandes, 90, of Woonsocket and formerly of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2026, at The Holiday Retirement Home in Manville. She was the beloved wife of the late João Fernandes, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, family, and cherished memories.

Born in Penalva do Castelo, Portugal, on November 19, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Manuel Almeida and Maria (Rodrigues) Almeida.

Delmira was raised in Portugal, where she developed the strong family values, enduring faith, and appreciation for her Portuguese heritage that would remain important to her throughout her life.

Delmira made her home in Cumberland for many years before moving to Woonsocket in 2017, where she resided with her daughter, Lori. She was employed as an assembler at Texas Instruments in Attleboro, Massachusetts, dedicating approximately 25 years to the company before retiring in 1997.

She developed the strong family values, enduring faith, and appreciation for her Portuguese heritage that would remain important to her throughout her life.

Above all else, Delmira's greatest happiness came from her family. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she treasured the simple but meaningful moments spent with those she loved. Family was the center of her world, and she took great pride in watching the generations of her family grow. Her love and devotion to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were constants throughout her life.

Delmira also enjoyed traveling, particularly the opportunity to visit Portugal and reconnect with the country and traditions she held close to her heart. She especially cherished cruises, which allowed her to experience new places and create lasting memories. Her Catholic faith was an important part of her life.

She leaves her four loving children, Carlos Fernandes and his fiance Patricia of East Providence, Louis Fernandes and his wife Susan of Johnston, Rose Kashtan and her husband Michael of Florida, and Lori Bois and husband Robert of Woonsocket, with whom she made her home. She also leaves her brother, Joaquim Almeida of Portugal; her four sisters, Olivia Costa of Portugal; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was also the grandmother of the late Alyssa Fernandes.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Delmira's Life Celebration to be held with a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 11 AM in the Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Lincoln. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.

At the request of the family visitation will be omitted.
