David A. Marcoux, 98, of Cumberland passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, surrounded by his daughter and beloved caregivers. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late David A. Marcoux, Sr. and Lillian (Dalton) Marcoux. He was the devoted husband of the late Rita (Macchiarelli) Marcoux.

In high school, David had taken a typing class, and one day the Commanding General noticed David typing up a parts invoice without looking at the typewriter keys. He tapped him on the shoulder and quietly said, “Report to the General’s headquarters tomorrow morning.” After that, David spent the rest of the war in a warm cozy office as the General’s typist.

After graduating from college, David worked at Devonshire Financial Services in downtown Providence. His role required him to place trades at Kidder, Peabody, and Co. in Providence where he met his wife, Rita, who worked there as a brokerage agent. He married Rita in 1960 and soon after they purchased a lot of land in Cumberland. David drew up all the plans for their house and did most of the construction himself, with the help of his good friend Edward Rodi. They moved into the house in 1962 where they raised their two daughters. David was very involved in his children’s schools and, together with Rita, started the first Parents Club at Mercymount Country Day School, as well as assisted the Sisters of Mercy with school finances.

Dave and Rita enjoyed traveling the world in their retirement years, including many cruises, trips to Europe, Greece, and Alaska, just to name a few. Along with travel, he enjoyed woodworking in his basement shop full of specialized tools. He built amazing custom furniture using skills learned from his father who was a master carpenter.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to David’s Life Celebration to be held with visitation on Monday, September 14th, from 9:30am-11:00am in the JJ Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd, Rte 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the Historic St. Joseph’s Church, Mendon Road, Cumberland, at 11:30am. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
