Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John McCaffrey and Alice (Hogg) McCaffrey. He resided in Lincoln for the past 7 years, previously residing in Pawtucket.

He was a US Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War.

Darryl lived a vibrant and active life, filled with passion for both sports and family. A dedicated triathlete and marathon runner, he found joy in pushing his physical limits and embracing the thrill of competition. He loved skiing down snowy slopes, hitting the golf course, and savoring a good box of wine to unwind. As a beloved girls' cross country and track coach at Tolman High School, he inspired countless students with his energy, dedication, and guidance. His adventurous spirit, warmth, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He dedicated his career to education, working as a math teacher at Tolman High School for 28 years before joining Mount St. Charles Academy, where he taught for 10 years until his retirement. Beyond the classroom, he spent over 25 years at Chemawa Golf Course as a starter, sharing his love for the game with others. His commitment to teaching and the community left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

He is survived by his son Darryl J. McCaffrey and his wife Amanda of Lincoln. His three grandchildren: Duncan McCaffrey and his wife Christy of Bow, NH., Liam McCaffrey of Jacksonville, NC., and Devin McCaffrey of Lincoln, two great-granddaughters: Araya and Emma along with one nephew Michael McCaffrey of Narragansett.
