Obituary

CUMBERLAND

Chris Forte Jr., 96, of Cumberland, embarked on his final journey on Saturday, March 2, 2024, surrounded by love, at Hope Hospice in Providence. He leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories, woven with love, laughter, and the essence of cherished traditions. Chris was the devoted husband of Marilyn E. (Bowen) Forte, celebrating 73 remarkable years of marriage together.

Born in the heart of Providence, Chris was the son of the late Christie and Rose (Esposito) Forte. He resided in Cumberland for 64 wonderful years.

Chris proudly served his country, first in the United States Coast Guard during the waning days of WWII and later in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, earning honor and respect through his service.

For 42 years, Chris dedicated his professional life as a staff manager for John Hancock Life Insurance, where his commitment and dedication shone brightly.

An artist at heart, Chris found joy in painting seascapes, each stroke a reflection of his love for the ocean. His passion for art mirrored his zest for life, a life he shared generously with his beloved family, often found navigating the waters of Narragansett Bay aboard his boat.

Chris's love for adventure and his Italian heritage were deeply intertwined. He delighted in savoring the flavors of Italian cuisine, paired with fine wines, and celebrating those traditions with his family.

His love for food and family gatherings was emblematic of his deep-rooted Catholic faith, which provided him with strength and solace throughout his life's journey.

In addition to his cherished wife, Marilyn, Chris leaves behind his loving children, Deborah Smalley of Cumberland, and Julie Forte and her husband David Franklin of Hopkinton, MA. He was a doting grandfather to Brooke DiGioia and her husband Peter of Plainview, NY, Spencer Franklin of Brighton, MA, and Lydia Franklin of Washington D.C. Chris is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ann Forte of Johnston, his nephew, Glenn Forte of Clearwater, FL, and his niece, Diann Boyajian and her husband James of Saunderstown; his grand-niece, Cara Boyajian of Saunderstown. He was preceded in death by his son Christie Forte III and his brother Gilbert Forte.

In honoring Chris's wishes, a private funeral and burial will be held.
