CUMBERLAND

Berta L. Costa,  80, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Hope Health Hospice.

Born in Penalva do Castelo, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Celestina (Araujo) Lopes.

Berta immigrated to the United States in 1968, settling in Cumberland, where she made her home for the next 57 years.

A hardworking and devoted woman, Berta was employed for over 30 years at Texas Instruments. She took great pride in her work and the life she built for her family in America.

A faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Berta cherished her Portuguese heritage and found joy in simple pleasures — cooking, tending her garden, caring for her home, knitting, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She leaves her two loving daughters, Theresa Castro of Attleboro, and Ana Roque and her husband Joe of Cumberland; her six cherished grandchildren, Vanessa Vierra of Lincoln, Andrew and Olivia Castro of Attleboro, MA, and Logan, Ryan and Isabella Roque of Cumberland; her two great-grandchildren, Kaylie and Thomas Vierra of Lincoln.  She was the beloved sister of Clotilde Lopes and her husband Alberto of Portugal and Genesio Lopes and his wife Alice of Cumberland; and her three nieces. She was predeceased by her brother, Luis Lopes and his late wife Zulmira of Pawtucket and Maria Teresa Lopes of Portugal.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be held Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland.   Visiting Hours are kindly omitted.
