Beatriz Bernardo, 86, of Palm Bay, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at VITAS Health Center in Rockledge, Florida.

Born in Cumberland, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Francisco and Felisbela (Duarte) Bernardo. Bea was raised in the Valley Falls section of Cumberland before making Florida her home, residing for many years in Windermere and later in Palm Bay.

Bea enjoyed a long and successful career as an administrative assistant, first with Merrill Lynch in Providence and later with Pierce, Fenner & Smith in Orlando. Her dedication, attention to detail, and strong work ethic served her well throughout her career until her retirement.

To those who knew and loved her, however, she was simply “Bea,” “Tia,” or “Tia Bea.” She was a woman of remarkable independence, determination, and strength who lived life very much on her own terms. She believed in working hard, living responsibly, and preparing thoughtfully for the future. Although disciplined and fiercely self-reliant, beneath her strength was a generous spirit and a deeply loving heart.

Bea also possessed a wonderful sense of adventure and especially enjoyed the freedom of the open road on her motorcycle. For many years, she looked forward to attending the annual motorcycle rally in Daytona Beach alongside her brother and his friends, creating treasured memories from the miles they traveled together.Distance never diminished the affection Bea held for her family. Whether separated by miles or by the passage of time, she remained connected to those she loved in the ways that mattered most. Her family will fondly remember her unmistakable personality, her strong convictions, her independent spirit, and the enduring love she carried for them throughout her life.

She leaves her loving brother, Dennis Bernardo and his wife, Jo, of Cumberland, as well as several cherished nieces and nephews who will remember their Tia Bea with great affection and, undoubtedly, many smiles. She was the sister of the late Arthur Bernardo. 

She also leaves her beloved Yorkie, Pebbles II—the spirited successor to her late and equally cherished Yorkie, Pebbles—because, in Bea’s heart, one Pebbles was simply never enough.  Pebbles II has been entrusted to the care and safekeeping of Bea's dear friend, Laura.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Tia Bea's Life Celebration, beginning with visitation on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Route 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
