Barrett Barnard of Barrington, also known as Barney to family and friends, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Mary Beth Barnard with whom he shared 28 years of marriage and built a beautiful life.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Charles and Rebecca (Barrett) Barnard. Barrett was a proud and loving stepfather to Justin, and his cherished granddaughters were always a source of great joy. He would take great pleasure and care in selecting special greeting cards for family members and embellishing them with his clever illustrations and humorous captions that showcased his wry wit.

Barrett was a man of quiet strength, understated demeanor and steadfast loyalty—a caring and nurturing man who was devoted to his family. He enjoyed spending as much time as possible on Nantucket, his model trains, sailing during his early years in Rhode Island, trimming the hedges and he was an avid reader.

He earned an undergraduate degree in economics from Brown University. Initially he was a banker in New York City and pursuing an MBA at NYU. Barrett made a career shift and returned to Brown for a Master of Arts in Teaching / History. He then became an economics and history teacher at Barrington High School where he taught for 28 years and also coached, first the boys tennis team and later the girls team. After his retirement, he maintained a connection to the high school through substitute teaching. Over the years, a number of former students and tennis team members would keep in touch with him, a testament to his dedication as an educator.

Barrett lived a long, happy, fulfilling life. Never one to seek the limelight, he wanted to be known and remembered simply as a good man.

Dearly and deeply loved, he is, in addition to his wife, survived by stepson Justin Monti and his wife Lisa, granddaughters Emlyn and Addison Monti, sisters-in-law Christine Phillips and Katherine Mellone, and nieces and nephews.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral services and burial will be private.
