Barbara M. (Birkitt) Lefaivre, 86, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully at her home on September 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the devoted wife of the late Robert D. Lefaivre.

Born in Central Falls, Barbara was the daughter of the late Clifford and Dorothy (McCormick) Birkitt. Raised in Pawtucket, she moved to Cumberland in 1972, where she made her home and remained for the rest of her life.

Barbara's life was defined by compassion, kindness, and a genuine desire to care for others. She devoted much of her working life to helping children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. Early in her career, she worked as an assistant helping children with disabilities at the Blackstone Valley Prep Center on Newport Avenue in Pawtucket. She later worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Mansion Nursing Home and Autumn Villa, providing comfort and care to those who depended upon her.

Her commitment to helping others continued through her work as a bus monitor for Durham Bus Services and as a van driver for children with disabilities through the ARC program in Cranston.

Caring for others was not simply Barbara's profession; it was at the very heart of who she was. She was a devoted caretaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who readily placed the needs of others before her own. She lovingly cared for her own mother during her illness, an example of the devotion to family that remained a constant throughout Barbara's life.

Above all, Barbara cherished time spent with her family. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and found her greatest happiness in simply being together with those she loved. She was a former member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed the friendships and fellowship it brought. Barbara could also often be found alongside her husband, Robert, attending softball tournaments, golf tournaments, and countless other events throughout their years together.

Barbara leaves behind her loving children, Kimberly A. Altieri and her husband, Bruce, of Cumberland; Ronald M. Lefaivre and his wife, Maryann, of Cumberland; and Holly A. Manfredi and her husband, Edward, of Phoenix, Arizona.

She is also survived by her siblings, Clifford Birkitt Jr. of Providence, Linda Travers of Cumberland, Sharon Croteau of Cumberland, Nancy Testa of Johnston, and Leslie Tripp of Lincoln.

Barbara was the cherished grandmother of Sarah Weinrich, Megan Ebert, Ryan Lefaivre, Brooke Moran, Heather Nowinowski, Bruce Altieri Jr., and Brad Waterman, and the proud great-grandmother of Mia, Parker, Brady, Beckett, Jaxon, Bruce III, Ellerie, Ava, Brody, Chloe, and Zane.

Barbara will be remembered for the love she gave so freely, the countless lives she touched through her care and kindness, and the unwavering devotion she showed to her family. Her life was one of service to others, and her gentle presence, generous heart, and enduring love will remain forever treasured by those who knew her.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Barbara's Life Celebration, beginning with visitation on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, and continuing on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 10:00 AM, in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Route 122, Cumberland. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM.

Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
