Ashley Anderson, 40, of Asheville, North Carolina—formerly of Cumberland, Rhode Island—passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength, deep compassion, and heartfelt service.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1984, Ashley was the beloved daughter of Wendall and Charlotte Anderson, and sister to Nicholas Anderson (wife Sarah) and Brett Anderson (wife Tori). She was a loving aunt to William, Kasey, Jack, and Sally, and the cherished goddaughter of Susan Shaye and Frank Falciano. She is survived by both grandmothers, Carol Anderson and Mary Rupert. Her extended family included many she held close, including the Yankees, Raymonds, Carpenters, and Ruperts.

Ashley grew up surrounded by a deep tradition of service. Her father, a retired fire captain, was her hero. Her brothers, grandfather Wendall Sr. and Uncles Peter and Brian were all firefighters; and both of her grandmothers worked in healthcare. Her grandfather, Robert "Papa" Rupert, a strong and steady presence in her life, left a lasting impression—his handshake, the strongest she ever felt, was a symbol of the quiet, loyal love that anchored her.

Ashley followed her own path into public service, becoming a public safety dispatcher in Asheville. She was often the calm voice on the line in moments of crisis, guiding people through fear with patience and compassion. It wasn't always easy—some calls made her question her strength—but she carried the responsibility with quiet courage and grace.

Ashley also had a vivid, creative spirit. She loved photography, hair and makeup, shopping, and binge-watching Golden Girls reruns. Her humor ranged from dry and sarcastic to goofy and lighthearted—often quoting The Ref or Fried Green Tomatoes in just the right moment. She had a gift for finding laughter in everyday life.

Some of Ashley's happiest memories were with her mom—despite their differences, their love for each other was unshakable. They shared girls' nights, movie nights, beach trips, and endless inside jokes. Whether laughing over favorite quotes or soaking in quiet time by the ocean, those moments were sacred. Their connection ran deep, with joy often tucked into the spaces between the hard times.

Ashley carried emotional burdens quietly, often masking her pain with humor and care for others. She gave of herself even when her own cup was empty. And yet, in recent years, she was growing, healing, and making strides toward the life she wanted. Her family was proud of how far she'd come.

In North Carolina, she found a second family: Dennis and Lianne Fagnant, and Cheryl and Paul Fender, who embraced her as their own. Her dog Otis was her constant companion—loyal, comforting, and always by her side. Her cousin Heather Bonds Harmon, a source of unconditional love and support, helped guide Ashley through some of her hardest moments.

Ashley may not have always shown up in the ways the world expects, but she showed up in the ways that mattered—with love, humor, and fierce loyalty. She mattered. She was worth it. And she was deeply loved.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Ashley's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, from 4 PM to 7PM followed by a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ashley's memory to a mental health organization or animal rescue of your choice—two causes close to her heart.
