Antonio "Tio Borges" Borges, 93, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Maria Rosa (dosSantos) Borges. They were married for the past 70 years.
Born in Lagarinhos, Portugal, he was the son of the late Antonio and Maria (Das Merces) Borges. Antonio came to the country in 1968, settling in Pawtucket. He moved back to Portugal in 1990, eventually returning to Cumberland in 2015, where he and his wife made their new home with their daughter and son-in-law.
He was an avid gardener and enjoyed his flowers, but most of all enjoyed his time spent with his family and friends. Antonio enjoyed woodworking and carpentry and considered a "Jack of All Trades" by his family and friends.
He was employed by the former Carol Cable Inc., Pawtucket until his retirement in 1990.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son Antonio S. Borges and his wife Kathie of Seattle, WA. His daughter Maria Fatima Janelas and her husband Manuel of Cumberland. His four grandchildren; Michael Mamede Sr., Eric B. Mamede, Allison Borges and Joshua Borges. One great grandchild; Michael Mamede Jr. He also leaves two step grandchildren; David Janelas and Stephanie DeJesus and two step great-grandchildren; Isac and Aidan DeJesus, along with several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Maria Lurdes-Borges. He was the brother of the late, Jose Borges, Marcelino Borges, and Francisco Borges.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Tony's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1 Fatima Drive Cumberland. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association, Rhode Island Chapter, 1 State Street Unit 200, Providence, RI 02908.
