Obituary

Anthony S. Chrostek, 91, passed away on January 1, 2026, in The Friendly Home, Woonsocket. He was the husband of the late Bogumila (Wierciak) Chrostek.

Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late Alexander and Annie (Golas) Chrostek.

He proudly served as a Veteran of the Army National Guard. A dedicated Boy Scout in his youth, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and later received a certificate of heroism for saving five individuals following a devastating motor vehicle accident. After witnessing a car plunge more than 25 feet from a bridge into the Pequonnock River in Bridgeport, CT, Anthony leapt into the water without hesitation. He managed to force open a submerged door and pull a passenger to safety, and together he and another young bystander rescued an additional victim before emergency responders arrived to save the remaining occupants. His courage in that moment reflected the character he carried throughout his life.

He was employed by the Cumberland School Department as a gym teacher and driver's education teacher for many years until his retirement.

He is survived by his children: Alicia M. Piette of Murrells Inlet, SC., and Michael A. Chrostek of Mechanic Falls, ME., along with seven grandchildren. He was the father of the late Thomas A. Chrostek and brother of the late Helen A. Slonina.
