Americo Soares, 89, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, surrounded by his family in the Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Maria A. (Sousa) Soares. They have been married for the past 65 years.

Born in Darei Mangualde, Portugal, he was the son of the late Samuel and Emelia (Correia) Soares. Americo came to this country in 1969 settling in Cumberland.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland.

He was an avid gardener and enjoyed working with his hands around the yard. He would often be found helping his family and friends with different projects. Americo enjoyed music and loved to dance, he was a loyal Benfica fan, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was a forklift operator for American Insulated Wire, Attleboro for more than 30 until his retirement.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his children: John A. Soares and his wife Maria A. of Cumberland, and Semira Peters and her husband Gary of Cumberland. His three grandchildren: Christopher, Melissa, and Brooklyn, three great-grandchildren: Damon, Mariah, and Indi, along with several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late: Antonio Soares, and Adelaida Marques.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Americo's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on Sunday, August 25, 2024. from 4 to 7 PM and continuing on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1 Fatima Drive Cumberland. Burial will be private.
