Alzira M. Lazaro, 70, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of Silverio A. Lazaro, whom she was married to for 50 years.
Born in Gouveia, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Adalia (Borges-Mota) Figueiredo, and survived by Lurdes (Freitas) Figeiredo of Portugal whom she called mom.
Alzira came to the United States in 1969, with her parents and siblings, settling in Central Falls and then marrying her husband in 1974. In 1980 she, her husband and children later called South Attleboro home, where she remained for over 40 years.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and soon to be great grandmother, Alzira enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She cherished long car rides with her husband, where they visited different beaches and would share one of their favorite meals, fish and chips & clam cakes. She loved cooking, especially making her famous sweet rice for family to share. Alzira was often found staying up late at night, listening to Portuguese music and singing along.
She was employed at the former Carlton Manufacturing in Central Falls until her retirement in 1994.
Along with her husband she is survived by her son Mark D. Lazaro of Attleboro, MA and her daughter Michelle B. Lazaro of Rehoboth, MA. Her siblings: Aurora Figueiredo of Portugal, Mario Figueiredo of Johnston, Conceicao Santos of Palm Coast, FL, Aurelio Figueiredo, Fernanda Jolicoeur, and Raquel Barros, all of Cumberland. Her five grandchildren: Jordan, Daniel, Alexis, Nicholas, and Caden, along with many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late: Jose Antonio Figueiredo and Carlos Alberto Figueiredo.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Alzira's Life Celebration to begin with Visiting Hours on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, from 4 PM to 7 PM and continuing on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1 Fatima Drive Cumberland. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.
