Adele M. (Gagnon) Cooney, 76, of Lincoln, formerly of Pawtucket, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife of Leroy F. Cooney Jr. and they had been married for the past 54 years.
Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Simone (Riendeau) Gagnon. She resided in Lincoln for the past 33 years, previously residing in Pawtucket.
Mrs. Cooney was employed as a Program Manager for the Parks and Recreation Department for the City of Pawtucket for 26 years until her retirement. She was an award recipient of the Walter Henry Award, which is awarded to the Program Manager of the Year in the State of Rhode Island. She was selected for the RI Recreation and Parks Association Hall of Fame.
Adele loved gardening and baking, but above all, she cherished spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren. She was an active and former board member of the Lincoln Garden Club. Those who knew her will remember her as someone who genuinely loved being around others, with a positive outlook on life, who made everyone feel special.
In addition to her husband, she leaves her children, Hilary Poissant and her husband Trevor of Riverside, Jacob Cooney and his wife Amy of Smithfield; her siblings, Louise Colinan of Cumberland, John Gagnon of Wisconsin, Raymond Gagnon of Massachusetts; her grandchildren, Kelsey Poissant, Madison Enos, Cole Poissant, Shelby Enos, Jake McDonough, Noah Cooney, Angela Cooney, Marissa McDonough, and Madison McDonough; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Jo-Ann Devlin and cousin of the late Janice Connor.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Adele's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Thursday, June 13, 2024 from 10 AM to 12 NOON at the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A memorial service will be held at 12 NOON. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Woonsocket Adopt A Family, Inc, PO Box 7665 Cumberland, RI 02864.
