SMITHFIELD

Abilio Martins, 91, formerly of Pawtucket and Cumberland passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023 at Hope Health in Providence.  He was the husband of the late Maria Emilia (Salgueiro) Martins.

Born in Fundo da Lameira, Portugal, he moved to this country in 1976, settling in Cumberland.  He moved to Pawtucket for a number of years, most recently residing in Smithfield.

Mr. Martins was employed as a Machine Operator for RIDCO Casting for many years, retiring in 1992.

Abilio was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He leaves his two daughters, Maria Bento and her husband Jose of Lincoln and Vickie Pipa and her husband John of Smithfield; his two grandchildren, Elizabeth Bento and Joseph Bento; his three great-grandchildren, Joseph, Saraiah and Elisia.  He was the brother of the late Antonio Martins, Isidro Martins, Francisco Martins, Diamantino Martins and Joao Martins.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Abilio's Life Celebration to be held with Visiting Hours on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 from 5 to 8 PM and continue on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 9 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland.  Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.
