CUMBERLAND
Robert E. Bowes, 81, of Crestwood Court, passed away Sunday in the Holiday Retirement Home, Manville. He was the husband of Eleanor A. (Cady) Bowes.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Earl Bowes and Virginia St. Germain. He was the step-son of the late Norman Rainey. He resided in Cumberland for the past 45 years, previously residing in Pawtucket.

He was a United States Army, Korean War Veteran, attaining the rank of sergeant, and was awarded the Army Occupation Medal and Rifle Marksman Medal.

Mr. Bowes was a textile supervisor for the Providence Braid Company for 46 years, retiring in 1993.

He was a communicant of St. Aidan Church. He was a member of the Trinity Club of East Providence, Cumberland Crime Stoppers, Blackstone Valley Singers, and the Cumberland Senior Center.

He leaves two daughters, Deborah Bowes-Smyth of San Francisco, CA and Karen Schenck of Cumberland; one son Robert E. Bowes Jr. of Westerly; one sister, Linda Beale of Warwick, and one brother Norman Rainey of Florida; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held Thursday at 9 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Aidan Church, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting Hours will be held Wednesday, 4-8 PM.
